Our So Called Life

Taking a cue from my friend – and fellow 1st time mom – Amber, I thought I’d document a day in the life of, well, me. I used to wonder what moms do and now I definitely know…we’re jugglers, soothers, sanitation workers, stylists, lifeguards, entertainers, chefs, maids, cheerleaders and 24-hour worriers. (At least I am).

Below outlines our day for Saturday, September 6, 2008 and chronicles Cal’s typical schedule.

6:45 a.m. – Cal wakes up. Change diaper. Mom and Dad attempt a few more minutes sleep by snuggling in bed. Cal won’t have it.
7 a.m. – Mom takes shower. Cal chills in bouncy chair with ball and red crab.
7:15 a.m. – Dad leaves for work.
7:30 a.m. – Cal wrestles Mom to get dressed. Mom wins.
7:45 a.m. – Breakfast of yogurt, cheerios and egg yolk. Most in mouth, some on floor.
8 a.m. – Playtime. Cal watches Mom fold laundry, change crib sheet. Cal and Mom play ball. Read “That’s Not My Puppy” 4 times. Cal exercises legs while practicing to stand.
9 a.m. – Cal gets fussy. Mom rocks and pats Cal’s bottom.
9:15 – 10 a.m. – Nap time! Mom cleans house.
10 a.m. – Wrestle Cal to change diaper. Mom wins.
10:15 a.m. – On way to get bottle, Mom is distracted by dog throw up by back door. Cal chills in pack and play. Mom cleans up.
10:25 a.m. – Mom attempts to feed bottle to Cal. Cal won’t have it.
10:30 – 11:30 a.m. – Field trip to Babies R Us. Buy food and new bib. Cal takes 2nd ride in buggy. He likes it.
11:45 a.m. – Return home. Cal downs bottle. Playtime with Dad.
12 p.m. – Cal plays in jump around, watches mom vacuum.
12:30 p.m. – Lunchtime of garden veggies and pears.
12:45 p.m. – Nap time! Mom attempts to nap too.
1:30 p.m. – Cal wakes up cranky. Dad attempts to pat and put back to sleep while watching the Beaver Penn State game. Cal won’t have it.
2 – 3 p.m. – Walk with Mom! Cal enjoys the sunshine. We count the dogs along our route.
3 p.m. – Bottle, diaper change and bouncy chair while Mom showers again.
3:30 p.m. – Play! More practice standing. Cal wants to tackle Porter the Puppy. Eats Porter’s nose.
3:45 p.m. – Nap #3 …in swing. Mom watches Project Runway.
4:45 p.m. – Play on deck and in front yard. Cal watches Dad use hose. Mom gives botany lesson: touch corn growing in white trash yard.
