The Monkey
Last month Cal discovered a new friend on a shopping trip to Al's Nursery with Papo and Grammy. Al's had its display of Christmas trees out, including a tree completely decorated with sock monkeys. Grammy says Cal picked his friend out all by himself by stating, "I like it" and pointing. I met the monkey at the check out stand, where Cal pulled up in his little red car holding the monkey in one hand and a $20 bill in the other. Since then, "Monk" sleeps nightly in Cal's crib, enjoys bicycle rides and was our salvation at a recent photo shoot for Cal's 2 year pictures (will post images in the next few weeks...). The funniest story though, recently occurred in Kohl's. Cal and I were browsing for new jammies, which happened to be right by the holiday section. Upon seeing the Christmas trees, Cal became very animated; pointing and making monkey noises. He's done it twice more now in Macy's and again during a return trip to Kohl's. It wasn't until the second time that I realized what he was doing. I'm thinking it might be fun to decorate a mini-tree this Christmas for Cal - all in bananas and sock monkeys.
