Sweet Dreams

Here's a little story I invented for the boys:

The Sweet Dream Fairy
Every night the Sweet Dream Fairy prepares to fly around the world to visit all the girls and boys. She has big, big, golden, glittery wings that twinkle like the stars. She's just a little thing and is so fast and gentle. She eats a dinner of marshmallows and flies around and around your room, sprinkling marshmallow dust over your beds. She brings you sweet dreams and makes the bad dreams go away. She can't come if you don't go to sleep, so close your eyes and think of sweet things like Disneyland or your friends or icecream.

I started the story for Ben, to try and get him to settle down in bed. Worked a few nights, but he now wants to hear more about the marshmallows and starts giggling every time I tell the story. Cal now announces every morning whether or not the Sweet Dream Fairy came to him. Very matter-of-fact. He for sure knows if she made an appearance. Recently, they discovered "The Sandman" thanks to the movie The Rise of the Guardians, and questioned if the Sweet Dream Fairy was real. I told them she's his wife. Not sure they're buying it...but I love talking about it because Ben says, "The Sandbox Man." What I also love is when they say "Sweet Dreams" to me in their little voices, as I turn off their light and close their door. My Mom and Dad always said this to me, and I love carrying that tradition forward.
