Heartbreak

Two recent events had me in, or near, tears.

Yesterday I picked Cal up from school, nearly 2 hours late due to a meeting a work. Upon arrival, I was promptly told by his teacher that Cal had been upset for the last 2 hours and asking to sit on her lap and snuggle, saying that he wanted his mommy. I gave Cal a hug and he told me, "I'm sad." When I asked, "Why?", he said, "You not here to pick me up." My heart sunk.

This a.m., I left for work a little late. Just as I was heading out the door, I heard Cal wake up and call for me. So, I dropped my keys and went and got him out of bed, which must have confused him. (Normally when I greet him in the a.m. it's a Saturday or Sunday and the first thing he asks is, "You go to work today mommy?") Today, I said "Yes" and he started to cry and say "No go to work. You no go to work!"

Today = not such a good day...
